Cultural fisheries is taking an exciting new turn in Tasmania with the Palawa Fire Pits event at Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast. Over six nights, a range of members from the diverse Aboriginal Tasmanian communities will host a cultural evening with Dr Emma Lee in attendance each night. A free feed of Indigenous wild-catch will be included in the event, as ceremonially caught Indigenous wild-catch cannot be on-sold. The event will test the public appetite for cultural fisheries and the establishment of a food tourism industry in Tasmania. This is the first time that Indigenous wild-catch will be part of a major Tasmanian festival and the ticketed event has already sold out with a waiting list rapidly filling up.
