Eddie’s research centres on the human connection to natural resources. His primary research focus areas are i) fisheries and aquaculture contributions to food and nutrition security and coastal livelihoods, ii) governance of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture production and the human rights of fisherfolk and iii) vulnerability and adaptation to climate change of marine resource-dependent people. Eddie spent much of the early part of his career working in Sub- Saharan Africa but has since worked on all the other inhabited continents and ocean margins. As well as doing university research and teaching, he has worked for international development agencies such as the UK Department for International Development, the European Union and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and was previously Director of Policy, Economics and Social Science at WorldFish He has held faculty positions in International Development at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, and Marine Affairs at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He currently has visiting appointments at the Universities of Wollongong, Australia and Lancaster, UK.
