CMS lunchtime information session "SOKI: a tool for seamlessly sharing workflows, building collaborations and establishing a reliable source of information"

Event Date: 10 December, 2021

Summary:

Do you find yourself buried beneath mountains of peer reviewed literature? Struggling to find the most ‘up to date’ information on the state of knowledge for your subject? This lunchtime information session highlights a different model for building and sharing knowledge in research communities as part of natural, collaborative work flows.

The Southern Ocean Knowledge and Information wiki (SOKI) aims to provide a source of standardised and validated (peer-reviewed) reference material on Southern Ocean ecosystems and on the research tools used in the region. It was established in 2012 as a collaboration tool for the global Antarctic marine ecosystem scientific community.

SOKI provides a forum for researchers to exchange and link information, ideas and commentaries, as well as being used to coordinate research projects. It is designed to enable straightforward and efficient:

•management of information content

•input and updating of new information •extraction of information

•involvement of a community of users

About the presenters:

-

Dr Andrew Constable is the founder of SOKI, an IPCC Lead Author, an expert on the impacts of climate change on polar systems and the stresses of climate change on achieving sustainable development, and a CMS member.

Jess Melbourne-Thomas 2019

Jess Melbourne-Thomas has been involved with the development of SOKI since 2013. She is a Senior Research Scientist with CSIRO and a team leader for marine socio-ecological systems. Jess has also been an IPCC Lead Author and is the leader of the CMS knowledge production theme.
