Public Talk: Reframing the Climate Conversation Through an Indigenous Lens

Event Date: 8 August, 2024
Start time: 5:30 pm

Beaker Street Festival 2024 event.

Many scientists acknowledge the crucial role of Indigenous knowledge, resources, and practices in combating climate change. But genuine collaboration with Indigenous peoples in addressing our environmental challenges is uncommon. Indeed, although Indigenous peoples are often sought out for answers, they have rarely been included in framing the questions or — crucially — the nature of the problem to begin with.

In this conversation with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous scientists and academics, we’ll take a step back and reconsider some of the basic assumptions about the roots of our environmental problems. We’ll also consider positive examples of collaborative working relationships that are Indigenous led, rather than being extractive and exploitative.
