Is Politics Killing Our Reefs?

Event Date: 10 April, 2025
Start time: 6:00 pm

We are on the precipice of permanently losing our reefs to global warming. In March 2024, a seventh mass coral bleaching event on the Great Barrier Reef was confirmed. Meanwhile, marine invasive species such as the long-spined sea urchin are range-shifting down Australia’s east coast with climate change, decimating the kelp forests that underpin our very own Great Southern Reef.

Join us for a special screening of Divers for Climate, a powerful documentary sharing the untold stories of the divers, tourism operators, and Traditional Owners who are on the frontlines of protecting our Great Barrier Reef and Great Southern Reef!

Dr Paul Hardisty and Prof Gretta Pecl* will be joining Senator Peter Whish-Wilson after the film for a conversation on politics, our oceans and what action is desperately needed to save our reefs.

This event is an incredible opportunity to dive into conservation with experts in marine conservation and policymakers as we explore what is really killing our reefs and what can be done to protect them.

Don’t miss this inspiring evening of film, conversation, and climate action.

WHEN: Thursday April 10, 6pm - 8pm, doors at 5.30pm
