Dirk's research areas are the life history plasticity in marine fishes, quality control systems for data collected on fishing vessels, use of novel technologies to visualise the behaviour and impact of fishing gear on benthic habitats, use and abuse of science and logic in developing resource management strategies, influence of interpersonal dynamics on decision making in conservation and fisheries management.
