Bio

Carolina is originally from Colombia, South America. She completed her undergraduate studies in biology in Colombia (Universidad de los Andes) and a Master’s degree in Marine Science in New Zealand (University of Otago). Carolina worked for several years in conservation and marine management in international, national and local settings, and with both government and non-government organisations. Before starting her Ph.D. studies, she facilitated a successful community conservation process in the Colombian Pacific, improving the management of mangroves and small-scale fisheries in the region. She completed her Ph.D. in marine governance in 2016 (University of Tasmania) and has worked mostly as a social scientist since then. Carolina currently works as a social scientist in New Caledonia with the Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme of the Pacific Community (SPC).
