Graham's research concerns the relationship between human values and a scientific understanding of the human condition. He examines this relationship within three realms: environmental philosophy, cognitive science of religion, and moral psychology. His research directly relevant to the CMS addresses philosophical questions relating to how humans understand the nature and value of this ‘Blue Planet’ with particular reference to its marine systems. Such philosophical questions concern the contrast between intrinsic and instrumental values and the ethical standing of the non-human world. Environmental, religious, and moral values are examined using insights from philosophy of mind, cognitive science, and evolutionary psychology.
