Rich’s work focuses broadly on how we as a species must simultaneously address the tightly interwoven challenges of growing food demands, food insecurity, and natural ecosystem degradation. His current research is investigating the potential for novel foods, such as cell-based seafood, to drive conservation benefits from consumer adoption but his interests span all aspects of aquaculture, fisheries, and agriculture, particularly food system shocks (including the ongoing implications of COVID-19), and the role of food systems for sustainable development.
