Mengzhu’s PhD research focuses on China’s Antarctic science and its drivers since China’s accession to the Antarctic Treaty, as well as China’s engagement in the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS). This study will be one of the first that directly addresses the link between China’s Antarctic Science and its engagement with the ATS, and will help to improve understanding of how China fulfils its commitment to the ATS. Mengzhu has a background in physical oceanography. She was one of the students in the 2+2 joint education program between UTAS and Ocean University of China (OUC). Mengzhu is interested in topics related to the relationship between marine and Antarctic environment and human society.
