Abstract
The West Coast of Africa and its marine protected areas are currently warming at four times the global average rate. Maximum sea surface temperatures in the region can reach above 30oC, with sea level rise projections put around 1m by 2100. Although the regional network of marine protected areas in West Africa has considered climate change adaptation to some extent, cost effective climate adaptation policy planning are yet to be fully developed. This Ph.D project seeks to prioritize climate change adaptation policy planning through climate risk and vulnerability assessment, stakeholder’s perception surveys, and cost benefit and cost effectiveness analysis for 10 MPAs in five countries of the Regional Network of MPAs in West Africa (RAMPAO).
